The main road to Santa Elena is super winding, it’s not rare for people to get sometimes car sick. That’s why we show you several options:
- Metro Cable to Arví Park: If you want a memorable, scenic journey, take the Metro to Acevedo station, then switch to the Cable Car in direction Santo Domingo. There you swith to the Cable Car line L which takes you into Arví Park. As the cable car ascends, you’ll be treated to panoramc views of Medellín and the surrounding mountains. Once you get off, you ask where to take the bus to Santa Elena main square. It’s a short bus ride.
- Public Bus: Another option is taking a bus from the city center, specifically from Calle 50 (Colombia), between Carrera 39 and 40, close to Placita de Flores. Alternatively, buses from Terminal del Norte also head directly to Santa Elena.

Santa Elena, to some, is the perfect day trip destination. I agree if you have your own car or motorcycle. If you don’t, then rent a nice cabin and stay for a night at least.
Also you might fall in love with its peaceful atmosphere, staying overnight is a great choice. There are plenty of eco-lodges and cabins, like the Piedras Blancas Hotel, that provide a cozy retreat where you can fully immerse yourself in the tranquility of the countryside.
Tip: Pack a sweater and some sunscreen. As locals say, “The sun in cold places is stronger and burns,” so be prepared for the unique mix of chilly air and intense sunlight!
